The Dutch House by Ann Patchett Synopsis -  At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother. The two wealthy siblings are thrown back into the poverty their parents had escaped from and find that all they have to count on is one another. Here's another close up shot..I really enjoyed zooming in on things when I started taking photographs. Focus on the patterns others usually didn't. This is a photograph of a building in Florida. M had a conference and we were in a pre kids phase of our life so I had tagged along. This was the hotel we stayed in. I no longer have this print listed on Etsy but  Zazzle  and    Redbubble   allow me to experiment with it on other products.                                             Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Redbubble             Zazzle

Last week I wrapped up my last Peru post. We took that trip in April and here we are in June. So let's do a run through of all that has happened since then. Where do I even start? Let's start with the youngest child. H has been playing basketball this season and it has been tough.. they have been on a losing streak.. 9 loses and then finally they had a win. All the parents and grandparents.. everyone in the crowd was saying some kind of prayer at this point.. let the boys have a win and they did! H also took part in the school science fair.       We had some taste and smell samples so that people could try it out for themselves.  The last time H participated in the science fair was when he was in kindergarten and he had done an experiment with D and now he is wrapping up 3rd grade.. A perfect bookend to his years in elementary school. He also had his band concert.. they played beautifully.  Things in D's life have been less eventful but very very busy as h...

Our Peru Adventure - Cusco

Image
We put away our hiking shoes and spent the day exploring the city of Cusco. Cusco is the seventh-most populous city in Peru and was once capital of the Inca Empire. On our first night in Cusco after the Sacred Valley tour we were barely functioning. We did walk to grab some Thai food which I shared earlier and we caught a glimpse of the city but did explore further.  After the Rainbow Mountain tour  while we spent some time in our hotel recuperating we did head out a little early so we could wander a bit before dinner. We ate at the Limbus Restobar in the San Blas area. The area was bustling with activity.  The food was excellent and the view.. wow. The next day we had a delightful breakfast at the hotel. The view from our hotel rooftop below.  After breakfast we headed out to explore Cusco. We revisited the San Blas area then headed to the historic center. We stopped by one of the many vendors to pick up some dried fruit.. and some fresh fruit. Then we visited the ...
